Can Heavy Rains Harm Your Driveway?

Here in Maryland, we know all about heavy rainfall! But did you know that rain can damage your driveway? It’s true, rainfall can break up your driveway and can cause some extensive damage, but how? We wanted to take some time today to talk about how your Maryland driveway can be damaged and how it can be repaired.

Damage on Your Maryland Driveway

When rain falls on your asphalt paving, it can seriously damage it. It can seep into the cracks and expand, causing the asphalt to break up. This happens mostly when it’s cold outside, as the water seeps in, freezes, expands, and causes cracks.

Water can also cause problems by getting under your driveway. Water drains to the side and can seep into the ground. Once there, it will cause the driveway to sink, and cracks and potholes can start to form. The best way to avoid these problems is to seal the driveway or by covering it during the rainy season.

Drainage Problems

We already mentioned some of the problems your driveway can have with drainage, but there are more. If your driveway is sloped incorrectly then all of that rainwater can run off of it and into your yard. Not only will this be an eyesore, but it can also kill your grass and attract mosquitoes.

Similarly, if your driveway is sloped towards your garage or your home, water can run down into them. Trust us there’s nothing worse than waking up or coming home to your garage being filled with water.

How to Repair Your Damaged Driveway

If you have any holes/cracks in your driveway or if your driveway is sloped incorrectly, then you should have it repaired as soon as possible. There are some people who attempt to conduct their own driveway repair in Maryland, but that’s easier said than done. We’ve seen some truly terrible DIY driveways, believe us it’s easier to just hire a Maryland driveway repair specialist.

What Our Clients Say

Once again you have exceeded our expectations. The price was very reasonable (we did shop around) and professionalism was outstanding. Thanks for not trying to include add-on fees to make a higher profit and we are looking forward to working with you for many more years to come.

-M. Leo Storch Management

Mr Joseph was by far the most responsive of the three companies we contacted. He came to inspect or driveway on the date and time he promised, gave us a firm quote, and he and his crew arrived on the appointed day at the scheduled time. They edged and cleared the old surface, then laid the new asphalt with the edges tapered to align with our patio and sidewalk. When they were finished the new surface was truly beautiful (and functional).
