Severn

Severn is a large city in east-central Maryland. It is situated along the Chesapeake Bay and is about forty miles from Washington, DC. Throughout the year, the city enjoys a pleasant climate. The best months to visit Severn are September, May, and June.

Severn is in Anne Arundel County and is home to over 44,231 people. As of the 2010 census, the population had grown by 26%. It has a population density of 3,259 per square mile. If you’re planning to take a road trip, you’ll be glad to know that there are several nearby cities and towns.

The Severn River was used to transport food to the market. There were numerous wharves located at the head of navigation. Then, when the railroad was completed, the railroad used the river to travel to Annapolis. The railroad was eventually abandoned, but the right-of-way was used as a bike path.

Local sandstone was readily available in the area and was often used for construction. A portion of the Belvoir plantation, built in 1690, is built from local stone. Listed House, a 1780 stone house on the north shore of the Severn, overlooks the Severnside. The Jacob Winchester House, which was extended in the 1830s, is another fine example. Along the General’s Highway, there were many other fine structures, such as the Brooksby’s Point Inn, and the Inglehart House. Next area.

The first settlers of Severn County were Puritans from Nansemond, Virginia. These colonists refused to submit to William Berkeley’s demands for allegiance to the Church of England. This resulted in an armed confrontation on March 24, 1655, which is still known as the Battle of the Severn. The battle may have taken place near Horn Point.

Tobacco was an important part of the area’s economy from the beginning. The Severn River was ideal for growing tobacco. Tobacco farming required clearing of the land. The timbers were then pit-sawed to the desired dimensions. The Severn Run water-powered mills, the Dicus mill, and the Cecil and Pumphrey mill, operated in the 1860s. These mills also served as saw and grist mills.

The city of Severn has six public charging stations for electric vehicles. These include a level-1 charging station, 11 level-two charging stations, and sixteen DC fast charging stations. Additionally, Severn has a museum and library, which are all part of the city. Further, it has a post office and several other public amenities for its residents. Learn more here.

What Our Clients Say

Once again you have exceeded our expectations. The price was very reasonable (we did shop around) and professionalism was outstanding. Thanks for not trying to include add-on fees to make a higher profit and we are looking forward to working with you for many more years to come.

-M. Leo Storch Management

Mr Joseph was by far the most responsive of the three companies we contacted. He came to inspect or driveway on the date and time he promised, gave us a firm quote, and he and his crew arrived on the appointed day at the scheduled time. They edged and cleared the old surface, then laid the new asphalt with the edges tapered to align with our patio and sidewalk. When they were finished the new surface was truly beautiful (and functional).
